So long to Shakeologist Emily (sob!)

Shakeologist Emily has worked at Shakin' it for five years and she is about to leave us for university. We are super excited for Emily but we will miss her so much! We asked her to look back over her five years of Shakes, toppings, ice cream and, most importantly, fun...

I was just 14 when I started my 'Saturday job' at Shakin' it. I was quite outgoing with my school friends but I was very shy at work. I even tried to avoid serving by doing back of house jobs. As I learned new skills my confidence grew. I enjoyed interacting with customers of all ages and making friends with the other Shakeologists and it wasn't long before I found my voice. The rest of the Shakin' it Team helped me with that!)

Getting my first pay packet was an amazing feeling as I had been day dreaming for ages about buying trainers, trainers and more trainers!

 

I am always laughing and quickly became known as the Shakeologist with the wacky sense of humour. It's no surprise that I appear in the crazy Shake videos for our social media posts and join in with dressing up for charity fundraising events.

The Shakeologist job has been a big part of my life and it has been more of a hobby than work (don't tell the boss that though). Anyone that visits our Shake Bar knows that it gets very busy at times but even when we are under pressure, we still have a laugh and support each other. We are a little Shakin' it family really - I have definitely made friends for life.

Shakin' it has always supported me with time off and reduced hours to fit round my school and college commitments. I am now nearly19 and looking forward to travelling around Europe before I start my Engineering Degree at Uni in September. My pay will come in very handy on my travels so I am not leaving Shakin' it until the very last minute. 

When I look back over the last five years, I can see that I have gained relevant training and life skills. I progressed to Shakeologist Supervisor with extra responsibilities for training and mentoring newbies. I have been involved in charity work for Children First Derby and Umbrella and I helped the Company to create a new Vision, Mission Statement and Shared Values for its 10-year anniversary. I was happy when our customers voted Shakin' it as Store of the Year at the intu Derby awards in 2016 and enjoyed the party as you can see! 

Outside of work, we have partied (a lot). There have been regular trips - WaterWorld, the cinema and bowling, BBQs in the summer and Christmas celebrations. Our monthly staff meeting usually involves pizza and we don't need much excuse to visit Nando's!  As well as feeding my passion for trainers, my job at Shakin' it has enabled me to save for holidays that I will never forget - V Festival, Amsterdam and college trips to New York and California.

So, after five years, the longest serving Shakeologist is about to embark on a new journey. I will really miss Shakin' it but I will be back for my favourite Reese's, Nutella and Oreo Milkshake!
